boogie2988 reacts to fatpeoplehate ban

The thing about FPH and it's 150,000+ users is that, it's easy enough to say Reddit are doing this to make money, but all they did was alienate a huge number of users in one fell swoop.

Why did FPH have 150,000+ users? Because, more and more people are suffering from obesity, but many don't see it as "suffering." In my extended family I see frequent posts on facebook glamorizing and promoting obesity as a life choice. Justifying their unhealthy life choices and encouraging others to forgo healthy eating and living. This is in a country with public healthcare and a country in which obesity has overtaken smoking as the number one killer, it puts undue stress on our health system and bloats costs, making it harder to maintain. I can understand that perhaps, in America, without social healthcare, that the fat acceptance movement steps on fewer toes and people might feel justified in being a part of that movement, but in other developed nations, this isn't the case.

FPH is an extreme example of the kickback of this fat acceptance movement. It's an outlet for people who have to deal with the bullshit caused by this movement on a daily basis. Watching my cousins follow their "fat and proud" parents' footsteps is absolutely horrifying. It didn't drive me to posting their images on FPH for strangers to laugh at, but I can understand the need to put a pin in the acceptance movement in order to save lives and save public healthcare in countries such as mine.

One might think that SJWs are a sweet, untapped pool of users, but their numbers are not as large as we think they are. They are just very active on social-media platforms and all have blogs that they crosspost, reblog and so on that makes them seem like a larger force than they are. I can't think of anyone in my extended circle of friends that views the SJW "safe spaces" movement as a positive one.

I didn't post in FPH, harassing people really isn't my jam, but I can understand the level of frustration in that sub, it is only a result of real societal issues. We can choose to ignore those issues and ban FPH, or we can actively work towards a world where subs like FPH don't attract 150,000 subscribers.
