The boomers had free university, cheap housing, a functioning NHS, a strong welfare state and freedom to work, live and travel in 28 countries. They've just voted in large numbers to deny their children and grandchildren those same opportunities.

Boomers would like you to believe that they're the greatest, most important generation of them all. Of course they got all the breaks, because why wouldn't they? No one worked harder than them and no one changed the world more. They invented pop culture, they invented the counterculture, they invented free speech and feminism and civil rights. And above all, they invented youth, and no one ever did it better than them. Why should they share their spoils when they're entitled to them?

And if you believe a number of theorists on both the left and right, the counterculture was already characterised by self-indulgence and narcissism, which is why so many boomers embraced conservatism in the eighties, becoming even more greedy and self-absorbed.
