Born as a Malaysian, but my country has done JACKSHIT for me and my family, oversea government helped us and provided us a better lifestyle.

While I don't share the exact same sentiments as the OP, I have been having similar feelings lately.

I am a third generation Malaysian, both parents were born here, as were two grandparents. My parents were both teachers who, despite their obvious talent and years of experience in education, were both overlooked time and time again for senior assistant or headmaster positions, always in favour of incompetent clowns whose only redeeming quality was being the ''correct'' race. Hell, they only made my dad head of the physics department six months before he retired. And my mum didn't even make it that far, despite the fact that her former school's head of department for English couldn't even speak the bloody language properly. .

My brother got straight A's for STPM, and the only place they gave him in uni was for forestry studies. No offence to forestry people, but someone who busts his ass and does as well as possible should get the placing he wants. Many other members in my family have similar stories. They've worked in hospitals, schools, ministries and other government jobs and have all faced discrimination.

All because of race.

As for me, a foreign government subsidised my education even though they didn't have to. All I had to do was learn their language and not squander their money and trust in me. And to show my gratitude, I've graduated and gotten a job here and am paying taxes to their government, so that the next generation's education will be subsidised. I've faced less discrimination in a foreign country than I have in my own.

My parents and grandparents paid taxes their entire working lives. They were law-abiding citizens and contributed greatly to their community. They sang the national anthem and waved the flag and were genuinely proud of Malaysia. For what?
