Bosses' Therapy

That’s off the mark. It’s perfectly possible to have a very healthy business that due to market circumstances is low on free cash. We were doing great until the pandemic changed the market. There is a labour shortage in our sector, but we can’t raise salaries to increase pay to attract the talent because we have already maxed out price rises to be competitive. It’s a perfect storm. Unfortunately the upshot is that we can’t raise salaries further across the business. So we are looking at soft benefits like providing meals.

If absence levels go back down and we can get the work through the door, then we can start doing better things again. It’s pure economics.

We increased salaries so the lowest we’re getting the real living wage, but now inflation has gone bananas that has gone out of reach again.

It’s nothing to do with slavery. Ridiculous comment. My point is that many many businesses want to do more than they can.
