Why would Disney or any other company go out to get their own photos when the entire stock photo industry exists to do that job for them?

One, because multinational, multi-billion dollar "super" corporations operate on a different level. This is their imaging/branding for a pretty significant IP. Even though it's a royalty-free photo it's kind of sloppy including work that someone else owns the rights to in such an important image.

Second, Disney is a major brand and content creator. There's nothing "wrong" with sourcing images/material, but only in part, not wholesale. The issue here is that they just copy-pasted the image. It's amateur and unprofessional and leads to public embarrassments like this, which for a company like Disney are a big deal.
