The Bottom Is Dropping Out of Netflix

Netflix is kind of meh. I have better experiences with HBO, Disney, and Apple at this point. I actually think Netflix needs to do more weekly shows rather than dropping seasons all at once. I think it harms the cultural relevance of their shows in the long run. It’s hard to talk about with people because you’re always at different points in the seasons, then people finish and move onto the next thing and conversations just turn into “oh have you seen x” “yea it was good” — then the conversation ends.

But shows like succession or severance I can have conversations on over the couple days after an episode airs. I think they get hyper focused on certain short term metrics and lose focus on the big picture.

And they produce a lot of schlock rather than focusing on a few really good shows. They’re like the Walmart of streaming services, whereas HBO is like the ultra curated Trader Joe’s.

Long winded way of saying I hope they don’t end up the only streaming service.
