BOTW doesn't "feel" like a zelda game

See, here's where Aonuma and his team are pulling out their hair when trying to listen to fans: take someone like me, who wants items back, however does NOT want back the tired gimmick of "How do I beat this boss? Oh, I dunno, let's just use the dungeon item on it, and then never use that item again."

I want permanent item pickups again, however I do not want items like the dominion rod or spinner from Twilight Princess that you never use in the overworld. I want items where the dungeon has puzzles that teach you how to use the item, sure, but then also have that item re-contextualize how I interact with the entire map. Is that too much to ask? Considering how large BotW's map is, quite possibly.
