Box Office: ‘Smile’ Chomping Into $19 Million, Billy Eichner’s ‘Bros’ Debuting at No. 4

I’m gay but I think people are getting tired of movies that only exist to be woke. I’m not saying that’s the case for “Bros” (which I haven’t seen yet) but I thought a lot of the trailer’s humor was pretty trite and “soft”. We don’t need message movies. I think that’s the reason “The Woman King” flopped too - because it’s packaged as a movie you SHOULD like.

I think Netflix shows like “Heartstopper” (which was bought from the UK) do a better job of making their mark on the cultural zeitgeist because it cares more about its characters and the story it’s telling than the think pieces that will be written about it. “Love, Simon”, to a lesser extent, was successful in that, too.

Representation matters but studios are going about it the wrong way. I’d rather see “Smile” too.
