Boyfriend got violent ( sort of ? )

Sounds like Intermittent Explosive disorder or perhaps bipolar. This is not a normal response to the situation at all. I think 29 is too old for this kind of behaviour; it likely has a prior history, which begs the question, why has it not been stamped out by now? Typically this sort of behaviour doesn't present itself past the teens, because the individual has been taught that it isn't appropriate. Personally I'd suggest getting out of it, you don't need his baggage He's in the wrong, not you (you should have left him alone, but I'm sure you know that). Perhaps he needs CBT (cognitive behavioural therapy), or perhaps SSRI drugs (Selective Serotonin Re-uptake Inhibitors); impulsive behaviour and violent behaviours have been linked to low serotonin in the brain, in other words its comorbid with depression in almost 100% of cases. If his job is causing him depression then he should consider looking or a job that he will enjoy more.

Either way, this is inappropriate behaviour. I think you should get out, but you definitely should if he refuses to take steps to better his situation.
