BPD the new hysteria? Lazy, misogynist psychs once again demonizing women

I think this is a fair point overall but I do think the fact that men are disproportionately subject to corporal punishment and it's disproportionately carried out by female caretakers complicates things. Not to say men are blameless here either (and male parents' views on corporal punishment are actually worse, it's just that women take on more childcare; plus most girls in America are subject to corporal punishment too which is no less excuseable), but I do think this makes the use "mommy issues" as an insult (which I regularly see in progressive circles) really cruel, for example. Most men were assaulted by their mothers as children, of course they have "mommy issues" (to be clear, women's issues getting dismissed as "daddy issues" is also vile and too common, but I think progressive circles have done a better job at acknowledging that).
