Brain Over Binge - Can I get to a healthy weight without counting calories?

Yes.

I don’t count calories outside of occasionally checking my average daily intake to make sure I’m eating enough. I also don’t weigh myself all that often. Sometimes I get a bit weird and weigh myself more than I like....but usually I try to just do it every 3-4 days when I wake up. Sometimes I might go a few weeks. If I could I would even ditch the weighing part. But it is useful to make sure I’m progressing somehow.

I’ve dropped 130 pounds.

A lot of people go for the obsessive tracking and meticulous weighing. That doesn’t work for everyone. Personally when I would do that I would get way to obsessed with the calorie counts for the day and the weight every morning would be so important to how I felt about myself and what I was doing. It wasn’t good for me. I would burn out and go back to what I did before and hate myself the whole way.

One day I decided I would just make a few small changes. I just decided I was going to do little things that healthy fit people I’ve seen and known do.

I generally eat what I like, I weigh myself when I like, and I do exercise that I enjoy. I basically do everything I do around finding things I enjoy and can keep doing.

Find things that work for you. Find little rules for eating that help you make better choices. Learn to recognize when you find something you’re not able to control.

You don’t have to count calories. You just have to figure out what works for you, and you do have to be mindful of what and how much you eat.
