Brandi Carlile (nominated for 7 Grammy Awards) can’t sing

When you're wrong, you're wrong. The Lucius women make fine backup singers, but they're "pedestrian" beyond that. What I've heard that they may have written themselves sounds like disco music. I remember disco the first time around. I'll stick Donna Summer and her contemporaries if I want a trip down memory lane.

As for Brandi, that woman can sing the shit out of any song in any genre. She's got a ton of personality and charisma in addition to talent. She's a snappy dancer, too. She has really upped her game with increased emoting to draw you into a song. Brandi is running on all cylinders. So are her longtime musical collaborators, the Hansforth twins. Brandi and the twins write their own songs which are infinitely better and have broader appeal than anything Lucius will ever write. Not to mention Brandi is "easy on the eyes" for her many lesbian fans. Her British wife of 10 years -- who appears with Brandi in the many informal videos they upload to fans entertained -- is charming, funny, and musically talented herself. Catherine is also damn good looking. In short, Brandi has finally hit the big time and it's well deserved.

Assuming you need visual aids, let's look at two recent videos of Brandi doing her thing. The first is a recent soundcheck where Brandi sings a Joni Mitchell classic. Brandi's range, clarity of tone and delicacy with the Joni tune are magnificent:

The second video is a duet with Brittany Howard from a recent sold out show at Madison Square Garden. Brandi and Brittany are singing a song by the late James Brown. Those two gals tear the roof off of MSG without breaking a sweat. The young pop tarts who inhabit the music scene these days could learn a lot from watching Brandi and Brittany.

So...I rest my case, your Honor. Brandi reigns supreme. If you have further questions, feel free to ask. A woman's work is never done....
