The Brandon Sanderson Problem (or people, I love you, but we need to stop)

Honestly, I don't know why you bothered to explain all that. I mean, it's true and well-written and clear and to-the-point. But I fear on this sub we occasionally deal with a malicious sort of impatience that flares up once in a while like a disease.

I think these people are getting on Pat's case because it's the thing to do. It's a way to be cruel to someone else and feel smug about it. I really doubt the ones making thoughtless off-hand comparisons between Sanderson and Rothfuss really care all that much about reading the Doors of Stone. They care more about whining about book three, and gleefully joining the troll-fest on a well-known author. They complain about book three because they have seen others do it. It likely gives them more pleasure than reading ever does.

Enjoying a melancholy tragedy, as you call it, requires a certain amount of empathy. These people who get off on sticking it to Pat clearly don't have that. And it makes perfect sense that they would compare him with Sanderson, because they probably read the KKC just for the plot and missed all the subtleties. They are not worth explaining anything to.
