Not as impressive when you figure out where they got the money to do all that

Every first world country developed a large amount of electricity generation from the start of the 20th century. Norway concentrated on hydro because it was cheap and reliable. That gave them tremendous advantages in industries that required a lot of electricity (eg aluminium).

If you are suggesting they did this with the money from oil, you'd be wrong. Norway had a large hydro-electric sector before WW2 and they continued developing it afterwards. They didn't need oil money because they don't have to subsidise electricity generation (hydro is pretty much the ideal source for electricity generation where geography allows).
