The British security service MI5 shielded and blackmailed child sex abusers involved in a paedophile ring at a notorious Belfast care home, the High Court heard on Monday.

yeah, this sounds more like it, but I'm still not convinced. i don't have an alternative idea; i genuinely don't understand why the media are silent.

i agree there is a conspiracy of silence in westminster (even chilcot has been pushed back again and again) but I'm still ambivalent about its reach in the press. i don't understand why they're agreeing to be silent, when they're usually happy to knife parties and individuals in the back for anything (sandwiches). yet here is a massive story, resumable with a lot of dead alleged perpetrators... and nothing.

its a boon to someone like guido fawkes, so its still weird its not being reported more widely. and if a reporter was being silenced, they could wait, change their writing style, and publish anonymously online.

im sure the horribly bodged reporting of allegations, esp the lord mcalpine debacle, unnerved some, but not enough to wipe it off the agenda. and its being reported in smaller papers, so why not national? it can't be fear of litigation, as smaller papers have more to lose there, w their tiny budgets.

by ' top editors and reporters' do you mean they were involved, or just knew of it, either then or discovered recently? again, this only makes sense up to a point, because if YOU (or i or anyone) were the one to break this story, you'd have terrific weight afterwards. its not quite watergate, but you'd still have a decent shot at being some kind of woodward and bernstein, as by your hints it could bring down a party. so if you toppled some editors and senior reporters, then you gain yet again by having cleared some of the field ahead of you. so from a purely selfish POV, again a single reporter could gain personally, as well as doing public good. I'm sure journos are motivated by self interest sometimes/often, but its possible to gain selfishly from it, so its still odd no one has. the torygraph and the guardian make a big song and dance about investigations; why not this?

even at this distance of time, this is horrible story, and no one has been prosecuted. there has been a cover up, and the SS were involved. politicians were involved.

ugh, im so tired, and this is depressing :/ thanks for your insight; been interesting chatting with you : )
