[Brooks] In 2018, Black QBs STILL have to deal with the perception that they are intellectually inferior.. I’m tired of the “coded” language in scouting reports.. I’m tired of the double standards.. I’m tired of sitting here acting like it’s ok to ignore the “dog whistles”.. It’s dumb

This. Winston was pretty universally praised for his football intellect, as he should be.

I'm sure there's unconscious bias that impacts scouting reports, and I'm sure some of it will be racially motivated, but the people I see planting a flag on Lamar Jackson as if it's racially motivated to question his intelligence or think he should play another position, are making a mistake.

It only takes a few minutes of watching an interview with Lamar to say this is not the brightest tool in the shed. It doesn't necessarily mean his football intellect isn't there (can't evaluate that from a mere interview), and it doesn't mean he can't be a good player regardless, but it's completely fair to watch an interview with him and come away with the notion that his intelligence isn't a strength.

Contrast Lamar Jackson with, for example, Teddy Bridgewater or R.Wilson. The difference is night and day when you hear them in an interview. And I don't just mean dialect -- sometimes really smart people can grow up environments that disguise their intelligence with the way they've learned to speak -- I mean the depth in which they seem able to respond. Bridgewater is highly intelligent. Winston is highly intelligent (but makes bad choices). So is Wilson.

Lamar... not so much.
