I understand the need for patience, but the fact is that Shaw really hasn't shown any signs that he has the makings of a good coach. In fact, he is completely inept. I say that as a Nuggets fan and thus as someone who has followed the team relatively closely this season.
For example:
-His in-game decisions/rotations are baffling, randomly variate from game-to-game, and mostly detrimental. -No one in Denver really knows what his "system" is: first he comes in talking shit about George Karl's uptempo system, then decides that the Nuggets are still going to maintain their uptempo pace, before promptly deciding early on in the season that the Nuggets are now "a defensive team" and that they would be slowing the pace down. Shaw has really done a very poor job of adapting to the team's personnel/strengths (which is what good coaches do), instead trying to force the players into his "system", whatever that is -Several respected, veteran Nuggets, most notably Arron Afflalo, have criticized Shaw's lack of game planning and noted that the team has no consistent identity. -Shaw's ideal "system" is probably a slow, half-court, post-oriented offense. This is exactly what the league evolving away from.
Also, for all the talk about Shaw being a “player’s coach”, he has done an absolutely horrendous job communicating with them.
-look into the Andre Miller situation that led to his to trade the Wizards; Miller, a respected veteran, had some very harsh criticism for Shaw’s unprofessionalism. Shaw and Afflalo have had several clashes this season as well. And Jameer Nelson had some interesting words recently as well. -Shaw has publicly criticized his players to the media for things such as “lack of effort” numerous times, almost never taking any share of the blame. This is probably only but a portion of the ineptitude of Brian Shaw’s coaching. Almost all Nugget fans want him gone.
