Bryan Fuller Reveals “Balance of Terror” is “Touchstone” of Discovery Story

I would think two aspects are paramount to the show's success:

  1. don't just recycle old stories; e. g. we have seen plenty of conflicts with the Klingons and setting the show in Kirk's lifetime for christs sake doesn't have to mean, you have to make it all about Klingons again, hinting to "Balance of Terror" would indicate, that they came to that conclusion too

  2. the biggest problem are design issues; if you are in the TOS era (10 years prior is like nothing, what are 10 years after all) you somehow would think, they have to ressort to the crappy papier-mâché and static displays with printed star formations style of the TOS enterprise, which was after all supposed to be the flagship of the fleet, with state of the art technology; but this would make for a sad "past of the future" look, even a modern day NASA or ESA spaceship that could bring men to the moon or mars in the next decades would be designed so much more modern than the TOS enterprise, hell every new suburbanite family van has more modern design and consoles and touch screens and whatnot, this will be a real problem for the show's design and would be honestly enough reason to me, to set every new show in the future of TOS, maybe before Picard and Janeway, why not, but BEFORE TOS? "Enterprise" the series solved this issue poorly before, its technology was very underwhelming and boring and again, every suburbanite family van has a more futuristic cockpit than this ship had (or the TOS Enterprise had); if I watch scifi I want actual scifi (science-fiction) and not a retro glimpse at what imagined 60's tv producers the future to be like
