BTS Atomic Bomb Shirt Masterpost

I guess what annoys me most is people presenting the Korean viewpoint on this issue as a monolith, and what disturbs me the most is how propagandist the defense of BTS has become. Like, I'm pretty sure Koreans have a multiplicity of views on Japan and the atomic bomb, kind of like they have a multiplicity of political beliefs. Kind of like they're a country of 50 million people of all ages and walks of life. Not all Koreans are nationalists. Not all Koreans are pro-war. Not all Korean families were effected by WWII and Japanese colonization in the exact same ways, and not all Koreans share the exact same relationship to that history today. Not all Koreans accept the atomic bomb as a symbol of liberation. And even if they did, using an event that killed hundreds and thousands of civilians as a symbol of anything is not something that we should just accept uncritically, or attempt to paper over with semantics.
