[Build Help] Looking to replace my sisters old pc with a new for her Birthday.

Hello and welcome!

It’s actually against this subreddit’s rules to ask for people to make the build for you (called “spoonfeeding”; see Rule #2). Luckily, the mods generally don’t remove threads like this.

You’ll find that, as a general rule, the more research you’ve done by the time you post, the more we’ll be willing to help. After all, everyone that’d give you help here did the research themselves at one time or another.

Once you’ve got a build completed or mostly completed, feel free to come back and ask us to critique the build or help you complete it.

Okay, so how do I get started?

On the sidebar of this subreddit (that’s the section to the right with all of the blue boxes), you’ll see a section called “Resources”. I recommend starting with the page “Guide to PC Components” and the video “Assembling the Components” (the video starts with a section on choosing parts).

Once you’ve got a good idea of what the parts do, head over to http://pcpartpicker.com/ and start to put together a build. The Logical Increments PC Parts Guide can help, but keep in mind that it’s a bit dated and the prices are usually wrong because that site doesn’t adjust prices based on what’s on sale at the time (unlike PCPartPicker, which does).

Remember that if you’re not based in the United States, prices and availability will vary. PCPartPicker supports a number of other countries, through a drop down in the upper right corner.

I don’t want to do the research. Can’t you just do it for me?

Not on this subreddit, no. You can try /r/buildapcforme or /r/PCMasterRace/wiki/builds though.
