Building the Troost Wall: Structural Racism in Kansas City

I don't necessarily agree or disagree with you, but I don't support you getting down voted for participating in the discussion.

I think it's important that you consider the long term effects on a peoples' goals or aspirations that structural and institutionalized racism can have when you talk about people trying to work their way out of the dilapidated environment they were born into.

Have you ever decided to not study before an exam because you've felt like you're going to fail it anyway? Or maybe you've studied really hard before and you still didn't do good enough? Or maybe you don't even care about the outcome anymore, so what's the point?

I think there's a similar (but different obvi) aspect to that for people who grow up in these environments. They get to live life on hard mode from the beginning of their lives and it fucks with every choice they make, in tangible ways as well as subconsciously.

I agree that the media and the war on drugs fuel the fire, but the problem is so multifaceted and complex that it's more disillusioning than anything.
