Businessman tells conservative publication he helped Saudis make millions in illegal donations to Trump campaign

I never thought that I’d find myself defending The Intercept, but I guess stranger things have happened. I can absolutely understand skepticism, but I must disagree here:

1) The reporter was pretty respectful for a reporter, and works for a fairly pro-Republican news site called The Intercept (For example, the front page article when I checked just now was “A CROP OF DARK-MONEY GROUPS IS BACKING DEMOCRATIC EFFORTS TO RETAKE THE SENATE”). The dude was simply doing his job, not “stalking Nunes”.

2) He interviewed multiple Republicans at the event, all of whom either participated or simply declined. Strangely none of them seemed to decide that “freak out and run away, then come back with their phones to record him” were the appropriate way to react to being asked a question.

3) He’s not a private citizen, and he wasn’t interrupted in the course of his private life. He’s an elected member of the government, and was at “a Congressional Republican Fundraiser”.

4) Nunes called over a member of the US Capitol Police to have the reporter removed, and not an actual cop or hotel security. That the reporter was “removed” (he simply left upon being requested to do so). US Capitol Police work for Congress, and have pretty broad powers to act in that capacity: if a Senator says “jump” then they ask “how high”, so it’s worthless as a measure as to whether or not the reporter was “in the wrong”.
