But I WAS born in the 90’s!

I was born in '91 and I consider myself a late '90s/early '00s kid. I remember ages 3, 4, and 5 pretty well, though.

I'd say 97-2003 were my real "childhood" years, so I'm kind of half in/half out of the decade. The barometer for me is 9/11. I still remember it like it was yesterday and it was a BIG deal. I go to school with a bunch of kids born in the late '90s and they pretty much don't have any emotional attachment to that day-- they tell me they "kind of" remember it and that it got tiring being "taught" about it in school. We live in the NYC metro, so that's a weird attitude to have about the event if you lived through it. I get that 9/11 wasn't '90s, but it was probably the single most defining world event for most so-called 90's kids. If you were too young to care about 9/11 when it happened, they you probably weren't a '90s kid.
