But emulators, bro: Two things I need to say about that stupid talking point.

I can understand the idiocy in not caring about proper archival (of anything, really), but there's just so much not-caring that I'm starting to regret actually trying to care. For example, check my thread over at r/emulation. You could disregard the technical differences between "emulation" and "simulation" if that bothers anyone, but think about how much might actually be permanently dead after understanding that, "Well, it wasn't released on consoles or systems peeps actually care about, so fuck it."

The other primary thing which has annoyed me for a lot of time longer than that is PC games; all of them, the bias against freeware Soopah Merio clones is included. See, PC has the largest catalog. When you even try to look up arbitrary "rarity" guides, the PC bunch are so lazy they don't even care to dig for any actual numbers or even try to start one. The thing is, I definitely know the PC versions of numerous games have had lower print-runs than things like Phantasy Star Online: Episode I & II Plus, but no one seems to give any other info. Find any "McDumbassArchivist" site that actually fully tries to archive anything. Even the basis of this thread is, "Oh no, not my precious NES games!" Even then the entire thing is obscured, because for some reason, people actually think there's still a higher importance to waste space with all the known bad dumps (b) than to actually care about archiving Obscure Freeware Gaem I Maed In My Mum's Basement: Teh Prologue.

This is fairly minor in comparison, but another thing which has annoyed me is the MUGEN engine's "anti-warehousing" 'community' which whines when their precious Street Fighter Ryu Recolor #432 gets placed on some other site outside of their own poorly designed one. "You don't have permission, or else I'll delete everything I ever made and won't make another one!" Anyone who has ever fiddled with that thing knows just how difficult it is to find just one character when everyone gives you the run-around and won't tell anyone where they got it.

Seriously, forget ROMs, tell me which one of you have ever actually found an ISO of Rockman Dash 2 for PC like I did. Trust me, this is becoming more futile the longer everyone procrastinates and argues about it. I won't ever have any type of funding for something like this, "being the type of person I am", but there is a gigantic scale of not-caring. You could check the amount of Flash gaemz no one wants to archive, either, cuz they're just not as important as anything Nintenda & Rockstar shits out.
