Buy online or locally?

Hey brother. This is a tough one but I just recently went through this process. In short, went online, but I still found a way to support LBS.

The bike I wanted at LBS with the stuff I wanted was $1200 with tax. The bike with the same features from a direct to seller company, that after doing due diligence was comfortable in dealing with, was $950, but managed to get another 10% off from military discount. After two visits to LBS, I told them, I understand the value they bring, but asked to knock off tax (about $100) and that I would buy. They said no, adding that such deals are reserved for higher end bikes. And that's totally cool! We just could not come to an agreement; it happens in business.

But I like my LBS and I like shopping local, so I'll support them when I need inner tubes, accessories, whatever, even tho I can likely save elsewhere. It is not much, but it is something. When you're making a BIG purchase, you have to look out for yourself and if you can afford it, at least try and work with local business owners because they are indeed important.

Just my two bits. Can't wait for my new bike.
