Buy / Sale / Trade Weekly Thread: January 08, 2016

Hey, I'm gonna copy and paste the last message I sent, but I'll answer your question here. As far as floor space disassembled, probably 3'x1', not much, but the tube stands tall at a little over 3' I believe. It comes with the tripod and mount. If you want it assembled it's probably around 4'x4' of space, it's pretty big. I'd like around $650 for it. The scope and everything with it was a little over $1,000

Hey, So it's an Orion SkyView Pro 8" reflector. This is the link to it. http://www.telescope.com/mobile/catalog/product.cmd?productId=9738&gclid=CKmA-53ImsoCFYEsHwod-FsGZw

I also have: 3.5mm wide view Stratus eyepiece which essentially maxes out the scope's usable magnification. Solar filter, which allows you to look directly at the sun and able to view sunspots on the surface. Adjustable polarizing filter which adjust to filter 1-40% of light to allow clearer view of the moon or the surrounding sky. A carrying bag that fits the scope tube. A usb red light to plug into a computer if you want to use sky map software while viewing.

All of that was bought from Orion, you can find it all on the site.

I'm selling simply because I haven't been able to invest as much time as I thought I initially would. There's some issues with the mount, one of the locks broke off. In all honesty, this is a positive thing because that lock often got in the way of maneuvering the scope as it would constantly get in the way of the fine movement knobs. Only downside is you have to use one of the included wrenches to lock it, just the plastics thumb piece broke off, not the entire lock. Also, a part of the plastic on the thumb screw for the counter weight broke off, mostly cosmetic if you even pay attention to it. In addition, you will probably have to collimate it, which is pretty easy to do. There's plenty of instruction on how to do it online and YouTube.

As far as the scope though, it was great. I saw plenty of galaxies, nebulae, and star clusters. The finder scope is fantastic and makes it all so much easier. I saw every planet except Neptune and Uranus through it, but never tried to find those two. You can see Jupiter moons and colors crystal clear and Saturn's rings. The moon is great to look at, there's really a lot of detail, especially with the lunar filter.

Set up is super easy once you do it a couple times. The only complaint I've had is that the fine motion knobs bump the locks and you have to readjust everything to get the motion you want. However, like I said, it was no longer an issue after the thumb lock broke off for that reason.
