Buying plots of land in the slums of Detroit for farming purposes.

The Urban Farming Guys have done the most amazing work transforming abandoned, crime ridden, inner city plots into amazing thriving agricultural hubs. They have come such a long way and their story is unbelievable.

Community gardens and orchards, aquaponics, rain water catchment systems, aquaculture, energy production, after school programs, dilapidated house renovations, job skills training and even assisting those on parole to get back on their feet and serve the community in ways never imaginable.

The project evolved with a community makerspace too. What they do to provide hope, abundance, food sovereignty, jobs and afterschool programs for youth is so positive that even folks who owned rundown lots began selling them for dollars a piece for the project.

Check out this short 16 minute (older) film about their work. Farming in the Hood.

Here's the website where you might consider contacting them for advice and resources they might have to offer. I'm most certain they'd have some advice to offer regarding what you're thinking about doing in Detroit.
