I worked a decade for a Fortune 100 company in a middle management position, having been strung along with hopscotch promotions (better territory, managing bigger team, etc) to keep me on the hook with continuous promises for future high-level positions.

One day my level of management is flown together to meet our new Director. We are introduced to a very nice, yet obviously totally green, woman in her mid 20's. First words out of her mouth were something to the effect of "I'm new to all of this, so please bear with me as I get acclimated to our industry." When she let us know where she graduated from (state college where corporate HQ is located), one quick Facebook search shows that she's the daughter of a high level manager in the corporation...
