CA passes new law changing police justified use of force from when “reasonable” to only when “necessary”

Unlike FAA incidents where mistakes are largely part due to human error, law enforcement routinely confront situations where criminals react in unpredictable ways.

There’s only so many things you can improve on. Sometimes shooting is just inevitable. It’s the criminal that escalates and forces the officers hand.

Example on something that was learned and improved upon:

  1. Suspect being threatening with a knife. Instead of all officers arriving and shooting the suspect, as was done before, designate less lethal (taser, pepper ball, etc). Regardless - if less lethal fails, a shooting is inevitable if the person approaches officers or other civilians.

No one is hiding behind anything. Law enforcement is actively modifying policy and procedure to reduce the loss of life while still keeping officer safety in mind.
