CA teachers: New legislation that essentially says kids under 12 cannot commit a crime, what are your thoughts?

I live in north Texas, not Cali. I was punched in the stomach at 29 weeks pregnant by one of my students who was 9 years old. Student told me straight up “I hate your fucking baby!” NOTHING happened by admin and I couldn’t do anything with the police because the student is under the age of 10. I started going into preterm labor after this and I’m now on medical leave from work because of the preterm labor.

I am 100% of the belief that most of the time, children know what they are doing and need to be held accountable for it. I don’t mean jail time necessarily, but there needs to be consequences for their actions. I don’t believe that children “don’t know any better,” and I wish there were as many laws and things put in place to protect teachers as there are to protect violent and aggressive students.
