Cairo from above

I went a few years ago... just after the revolution.

My wife was quite nervous, but we went.

On the first morning of our trip, I said to our guide, Heshem, that I had heard on the news a protestor had been killed last night in Tahrir Square and that we had concerns about the safety of Egypt.

He nodded as he listened and then said, "Eight people were killed in your Chicago last night. Are you afraid to go back to the U.S.?

In the end, our fears were baseless. In fact, our guide started telling the people at the major attractions (The Pyramids, El Khalili Bazaar, etc) that we were Canadian because if they knew we were American they would insist on sending armed guards with us just to make sure nothing went wrong.

When I asked about this practice, he spit on the ground and cursed Google for destroying their reputation in America.

In my experience, it was perfectly safe.

☆☆☆☆☆ Highly recommend
