The cake (Tres Leches) my wife spent hours doing and her sister thinks $35 is super expensive

Where are you buying these ingredients? Do you grind your own flour? Is that why there are so many active hours involved? How are you involved in the process to the point where you say "our work" in other comments?

This stinks of awful self-promotion without realizing everyone who is bigging you up... will never buy your cakes, doesn't understand food science or cake artistry. This is a cake you give for free to your sister because you love her and care about her - even if it's for her boyfriend - because she is the one who is asking for help here, not him.

This entire store rings so false. From the pricing to the idea that this is even close to a grocery store cake... they'd scrap it once they saw the crumbs on the outer layer.

*2 years in a store baking, now a food tech who can't believe you'd ever put that thick of icing on tres leches.
