Cal Poly faculty vote to remove Chick-fil-A from campus

Not really. Your statment assume that there is a cohesive "we."

There's not.

There are the poeple who will vote with their dollar and praise Chick-Fil-A for making their owner making those donations and patronize them more.

There are people who will vote with their dollar and not give CFA a dime.

Then there are people who dont feel like the donations of a company's founder necessarily reflects the total sum of effect the company has on the world or a community, or plain just dont fucking care, and they patronize a business that offers them what they want.

Voting with your wallet against a company isnt directly democratic. It wouldn't matter if there were more people in that second group than the other two (I would be shocked if there were), as long as there are enough who will still patronize, the business will be fine.
