Calculating Calories

Hey thanks for replying! I've been trying to clean my act up but I still notice that I don't feel as clean as I think I've been eating. I live in a studio and don't have a kitchen so it's street food with the occasional restaurant for me. Do you mind if I ask a couple Thailand specific questions?

What do you use to cook at home? I have been thinking about investing in a rice cooker but I also don't want to eat rice too often. If you own a rice cooker, do you find it easy to make chicken and vegetables in it?

What vegetables do you try and eat? Are there any vegetables/foods I can find here that aren't usually brought up in this sub? For instance, the market near me has Chinese cabbage but a lot of the other vegetables leave me bewildered and I am on a budget so I want to purchase food as efficiently as possible.

The ladies use the same cooking technique when they cook larb and other "fry" dishes. Does that minced meat absorb the oil less than eggs do?

Have you ever had:

  • suki nam muu [chinese cabbage string bean, pork, rice noodle soup with a suki flavored broth]

  • paht pahk ruam mit gai (mei khao) [mixed vegetable stirfry (no rice)]?

I have been defaulting to these two dishes as they seem like the healthiest options but the ruam mit is also cooked as a stir fry, which of course uses a bit of oil. There is also a place around the corner that does slow cooked grilled chicken. I think I'm going to start eating that every day. Worst case scenario (it is marinated and basted in a Thai sauce), it's still pretty healthy?

Thank you for taking the time to reply to me! How long have you been in Thailand? I love it here and the food is so delicious. I
