“California is going to make its own insulin. - It’s simple. People should not go into debt to get life-saving medication.“ Gavin Newsom

I agree these oligopolies prevent new people from entering the market. They do so by using FDA regulations. Perdue can’t force a company from not producing baby food but Perdue can get the FDA to do so. Also, what do you want the FDA to do, police every single food manufacturing plant in the entire world. Of course there is going to have to be self policing to some degree. This is one of the reasons why FDA regulations create useless barriers of entry without making us safe. The Abbott facility was linked to just 4 bacterial infections in babies in over a decade of the FDA letting them police themselves.

And yes importing baby formula isn’t that hard. Its already produced, packaged, and approved in Europe. But I do agree when the government gets involved, nothing is quick.

I also agree there is subsidization in American medical markets. When a drug company produces a product and has to spend billions of dollars to get it approved by the FDA, they are given a patent that allows them to charge monopoly prices. These subsidies however are not good for American tax payers and consumers. It is better to just let Americans make their own decisions on what food they eat and what drugs they take.
