California's background checks for firearm purchases and ban on possession for those convicted of violent misdemeanors has had no effect on firearm homicide or suicide over the past 10 years.

here's one story i read recently, but that doesnt't discuss the bb gun incident.

i do recall the BB gun thing from last year. one of the anti-2A groups released a school shooting list with a wildly loose definition of school shootings. it included BB guns, someone committing suicide in the parking lot of a shuttered/abandoned school, a few negligent discharges by police/resource officers, inner city gang violence where a stray bullet struck the building, etc... just a dishonest story intended to scare.

it's like how most news articles use Massshootingtracker.org for their mass shooting data. that site was litterally created by one of the mods from the anti gun sub, r/gunsarecool, and they redefined a mass shooting to increase the numbers 30x compared to the FBI statistics. makes for scary news and sells papers.
