Came to Qatar in 1986, leaving soon forever.

Wholeheartedly agree with the OP. I only lived in Qatar for a short while, but as an American it was dismaying to see that whereas every other community had some measure of contact and interaction with everybody else the Western communities in Qatar went to extreme lengths to cocoon themselves. I still have some families who have lived in Qatar (and Dubai!) for a long time on my Facebook, and from their pictures you’d think they’re the first blonde expedition to Mars or something. Always pictures of stereotypically barren deserts on camels with their own, when we all know how glam the downtown has become. Not to toot my country’s horn but I feel this is more pronounced with Europeans possibly because Americans have nothing to prove considering the US’ status, but that’s just conjecture.
