Camping advice in India

Trekked in the northern region of India. Gharwal region to be specific and we were on the boarder of the nanda devi biosphere.

If there is natural water sources, we used a sort of Brita filter attached to a large bag for drinking water. Food was kept simple. Eggs, potato bread, rice, etc if we could cook. When we didn't have food cooked as a group we would eat peanut butter with granola and honey, rolled into flat bread or a sort of tortilla. As for a tent, I would go for a two person 3 season kelty, mountain hardware, or high Sierra. Unless you're going in the winter... easy to get buried in snow up there haha You want something you can hammer into the ground with very stable anchor points due to high wind if you're way up where we were.

At one point we stayed at a military hut at 12,000~ feet for a couple days. The military was there and using it so we set up tents in the rocky/grassy area a couple hundred yards behind it.

I brought my own sleeping bag (mountain hardware, negative 15 degree F mummy bag), spare clothes (NO COTTON! Wool or polyester), Solomon trail running shoes instead of boots, stable trekking bag lined with a heavy mil trash bag so things didn't get wet if the bag went into water or got heavily rained on, shell type jacket that can fold up really small as well as light rain pants, polyester sweatshirt, headlamp, etc... Just remember, ounces turn easily into pounds. And it's hard to carry a very heavy bag for miles.

If you think you will be in an area without anybody around, tell someone where you will be going, for how long, if you will be hiking anywhere, and when they should expect you back. It narrows down the search party if anything were to go wrong.

Yadda yadda, was an awesome time!
