'You can change the pope': Pope Francis considers retirement after Canada trip

Late to the party but I have to say, as a Canadian, I did not expect any kind of conciliatory message from the church.

The truth and reconciliation report of the terrible injusiticies of native peoples in Canada clearly points to an official apology from Catholic Church for their role as a way to begin the healing process of our peoples.

I commend the church for doing what is very much not in their nature, and I hope our country can commit to taking on the more serious problems actively hurting the indigenous peoples of this country.

We are suffering as a people, and we must do the work of coming to terms with the cultural trauma of our peoples.

Edit: I acknowledge I live in lands unceded by Salish Coast people.
