Can I competently put a metal roof on my house?

We paid $8k to have an exposed fastener corrugated galvalume roof on our house.

We paid for our shingles (3 layers thick in some places!) to be removed as I knew this was the IDEAL practice, despite TONS of folks doing metal over shingles in north GA.

I didn’t like the idea of “garbage” under my new roof and also didn’t think that layers of failing shingles provided a great “foundation” for wood stripping and metal. That being said, another company did a the 2 houses down house over shingles and their brown metal roof looks great.

You have the skills to diy this if you want. Will that be cool with your homeowners insurance?

Be careful! Metal panels are sharp as shit and a pain to cut. After the roofers and gutter folks got done, I was finding little ships of galvalume in the yard with blood on them (gutter guy especially insisted that he never wears protective gloves). That metal is sharp! I have some extra leftover that I hope to do my shed with one day.
