Can my landlord kick me out for any reason when I'm month-to-month?

I appreciate your willingness to discuss this despite our apparent opposition in views. Thank you for that.

I can understand somewhat your position if it you believe the increase was simply based on "the market" and you feel they are only raising rent because they can.

The truth is that "the market" is the equilibrium between supply and demand where the middle or market price represents the minimum price a supplier can effectively offer a product and the maximum price a demander can effectively purchase a product.

Of course this is can only be a generally derived laggy average because of the multitude of variables, but that is why you have a situation where someone is paying 50% of market value (and complaining about it). But it does show the trajectory of current or expected costs and easonable expectations of compensation for supply, as well as the reasonable expectations of cost and received value for the demand.

Now you could reasonably argue that in all likelihood hood the costs of the landlord in this situation have not doubled, and a doubling of rent to current market prices would be an unreasonable gouge, and I'd agree with that.

But when considering why the market price has increased that much, and looking at the situation fairly and logically, anyone that doesn't consider a 100$ rent increase in this situation is unreasonable considering that it doesn't even make up the for the increase in general maintenance.

You know what happens when you refuse reasonable increases in situations like these, you create slumlords because they can no longer afford to properly maintain the property.

Try to understand why the prices are increasing this rapidly, and your pay check isn't and then try to remedy that is a more reasonable and effective way of solving the problem.
