So can we officially put the 90% tax lie to rest?

Europe has its own problems, I've lived in a couple of countries here (lived in Europe all my life) and it's not a perfect place. But people here are MUCH better when it comes to the average person understanding what is in their benefit and how to get it. Much better employment conditions, much better healthcare systems, better consumer rights, better benefit system, all things that are an advantage to the average person. Why? Because when the question of increasing paid vacation comes around, regular people aren't thinking "gee, what's the best thing for my employer? Seems like I have a chance to put through some legislation which would increase my paid vacation, but my poor employer will be out of pocket". No, they do what is best for them, because we all know that the other side is AGGRESSIVELY doing what is best for them. That's why the rich are having private lunches with our leaders where they try and get tax breaks, pay us less vacation, remove our rights when it's to their benefit. Not because they are evil, I don't think wealthy people are inherently evil or doing things out of malice. They are watching for themselves, as they should.

If you don't earn $10 million a year and you vote against taxing those people you're a fucking idiot. Some wealthy people are able to pay ZERO taxes, legally. ZERO. Why? Do you think those loopholes were an accident? No, it's because they're not naive enough to come to the bargaining table with the interests of others in mind. It's not immoral for them to make a lot of money, I don't begrudge that at all. But I would rather tax the living shit out of a billionaire because I know it won't affect them negatively in the same way that placing that burden on the working class does. Again, you don't get into a negotiation in a car dealership by thinking "well I want a good discount but I don't want the dealership to lose out". Fuck the dealership (in the nicest possible way), haggle hard for that discount because you can bet your arse they are doing the same.

Having said all the above, taxing wealthy people is not a solution in itself. You have to use the money wisely. That is the priority. No point taxing wealthy people just to throw the money away. I definitely do not advocate taxing them more out of spite. But if a politicians wants to ease the burden on the working class and place it on the mega wealthy? Yup, I'll go for that.
