Can we please ditch the term "systemic racism"? [John McWhorter]

Casteel’s study pointed up a quieter aspect of something richly documented nationwide – a sense among black teens that school is “white” and that real black kids don’t hit the books ... it isn’t that the system devalues the kids, but that they either devalue, or perhaps even feel wary about, the system themselves.

Yeah, it's an interesting thing. Like, when I hear about Asians outperforming Whites in schools, as a white person I don't say school is an "Asian thing". Instead, I just assume the memes about their militant study habits must play a role in their disproportionate success in that area and if I were to adopt the same mindset I too could get some better results for myself. It's about being willing to try. People have pointed out that belief in "systemic racism" or "white privilege" could cause someone to simply not try because, well, why bother if it's rigged anyway?
