Can you remember SPECIFICALLY where you first heard about "The Effect"? And when?

1994 for me. I had noticed odd things before then that were easier to explain. Back then I let it go, busy with work and family. In 1999 I got a PC and started looking things up online, computers at the libraries were usually in high demand.

The late 90's had reports of 'Changes' on random boards. It was not called the Mandela Effect at the time. Places like 4chan still have old threads archived.

Fiona Broome coined the term 'Mandela Effect', she was a moderator on at least one forum way back then when people started posting changes. Until she started her site, there was really no information to be found in the early days, just people posting changes.

Most things were noticed when someone would post about something in a completely normal way, then someone would correct them. Being corrected is what happens on the net. The difference here is when a massive amount of people are absolutely sure about the details that have changed. If it was just the OP or a few people with a random misunderstanding that would be something else entirely. So many people, so sure about the same false memory is when the 'Mandela Effect' raises eyebrows.

The 'Alive Again Phenomenon' was the original term for for the people thought to be dead returning to life. Many sites that used to have threads and post about these topics are gone. Above Top Secret, Lunatic Outpost and many others still have the content.

Keyword searching forums and search engines yield interesting results if you have the time. The bears get the best results as a rule, someone always mentions them at some point in these discussions.

Common misconceptions, mistakes in textbooks, famous quotes and history people get wrong are a few searches that will take you further down the rabbit hole. Enjoy.
