Can/should I convince my DM that bards are not "lame"?

Hey. DM. Fuck you. You're shitty at what you do. Let players choose what they want unless there is a strong setting reason to ban something.

I disagree with this. I personally am the kind of DM who lets players be what they want, but a DM who is upfront about how she wants to run the game isn't a bad DM or a douche. She's just trying to have her own fun as well.

Any character you come up with has to be accommodated by the DM. The world has to bend around these characters to a large extent, and the DM has to find ways for that character to be awesome and to thrive. If they're really not feeling the idea of a certain class for whatever reason I think that's fair. They're gonna spend hours outside of the game having to come up with hooks and cool moments this character would excel, and where the player would feel cool. If the DM isn't gonna enjoy those hours then fair do's- It's the DM's time, too, after all.

Personally I don't see banning different classes or races (this comment read out of context is gonna make me look bad) as any different to banning evil characters in a cammpaign- or banning 'lone wolf' types.

I know that I vet characters before they're played so I can understand and get behind the character concept, and everyone I know who DMs does the same thing. A ban of certain classes is just an extension of this same concept I think.
