Can someone explain in depth a Politics DA?

A politics disad has all of the components of a regular disad - uniqueness, link and impact. Most politics disads focus in on a specific scenario and a specific impact scenario. The uniqueness establishes why this bill isn't going to pass 100% and that political capital is key for it passing. Usually neg will read that a bill has a chance, but it will be a tough fight and political capital is key. The link explains how the affs plan will cause a drain to political capital and you loose your internal link story. The links need to show how the aff will be controversial and why a certain group of people will use all of their political capital. The impact focuses on a certain impact scenario. For example, the aff drains political capital which leads to the TPP not passing which leads to the asia pivot failing. It is important to find a scenario where you have enough uniqueness and a strong enough link. The uniqueness and the link will be the most debated. For uniqueness, try to find the most recent piece of evidence as recency matters a lot for uniqueness, unless nothing has happened in politics. The uniqueness is important because it establishes why this bill has a possibility of being passed and the aff will try to argue that it has no chance of passing. The internal link is the second (or first) important part of the disad. Make sure to explain how a certain bill failing will cause your impact.

A very difficult concept to understand is how political capital is measured. Understanding that is key to understanding how to attack/run a politics DA. Essentially the aff can make the argument that measuring the political capital of someone is impossible or it is changing to much so their disad has no link and/or uniqueness.

Usually politics is not a very intelligent argument because either the link chain or the internal link story is not explained well enough.

Try to focus in on one specific scenario and really work on blocking it out. On aff, develop strong generics and if a certain scenario is really popular find recent uniqueness arguments. Don't bother with impact defense because they will read another impact scenario and you wasted a lot of your time.
