Can someone give me the TLDR on sorting trash in Brussels?

Only the bag color matters since it's the only thing that you have to put out on the streets.

  • Yellow for paper and cardboard
  • Blue is a tricky one but makes sense on a recycling PoV. It's for aluminum and plastic. So cans and plastic bottles. The transparent film around packaging (blister) goes there as well.
  • Orange is not mandatory but can hold all your organic waste, skins and peels from fruit and vegetables goes there.
  • Everything else goes to White, except potentially harmful waste (ex: glass, lightbulb, batteries,...) which have their own recycling streams.
