Can you survive being average in this career?

vast majority of companies have positions open, and they pay close to, if not more, then the big name companies simply because they are competing for the same people.

Yeah so this is what we would call a lie. Or a myth. Depends on whether it's an argument or not. Unless by 'companies' you mean a very specific subset of companies like "tech companies".

Levels.fyi is accurate. There is no equivalent compensation in 'non-tech industry'. It is a myth.

I know from personal experience, trying to move back home, that golden handcuffs are very real. I cannot leave my current company unless I go to another FAANG or 'hip' startup. I have gotten offers from probably 20+ companies in Ohio and I would have to be literally brain dead to take any of the offers. One of them offered me 120k, no bonus for reference.

And I wish this was true. I've interviewed with so many of these companies looking for at least an equivalent paycheck but it's not out there. Which means I have to leetcode to get into another FAANG if I want to make money.

But I don't wanna leetcode. So I'll keep searching for this magical unicorn of a company that pays as much as the FAANGs.
