Can you get a vaccine while not wearing a mask? (please don't jump at me I have sensory issues due to autism)

I feel I was very polite to be honest, I just suggested attempting to give it a try! But apparently that’s too much for some people. I wonder how many downvotes I would have attracted if I’d said what I really think...

Haha, I felt so too, your comment didn't come across too abrasive to me. I tried biting my tongue too, not that it helped

Honestly, if you’re able to type a post about how uncomfortable you feel in a mask, then as far as I’m concerned you’re able to wear one. The poster obviously has the self awareness that it’s just her own feelings and mind getting in the way. But they’ve shown no humility, no attempt to understand that she may be around people who haven’t left their homes since March 2020.

Absolutely.

It's such an infantilising attitude to suggest that the 'proof' of how autistic someone is is how capable they are of following the mask rules. I'm autistic too, and at least one other commenter in the thread said they were, but clearly we're not autistic enough because we manage to wear masks.

It's considered a faux pas to suggest that out of two equally affected autistic people one might actually wear a mask while another doesn't. Because it reminds that selfishness also exists on a spectrum. There will always be people who think they just don't have to chip in or follow certain rules.

We have seen early data on how vaccinated groups risk & infections actually goes up in the first 8 days post vaccination. Some stats suggest part of the reason is those getting vaccinated relax their guard in the following days, before vaccine has kicked in, which is plausible however there's also been clues that part of what's occuring is people become infected during the travel to the centres (e.g via public transport)

I don't think it's remotely out of the question some infections could occur during the actual process of vaccination. It is at the end of the day, a space full of people, and the only other space full of people public are allowed to visit together are supermarkets

While the possibility of infection can't be eliminated entirely and for obvious reasons is unlikely to be getting much airtime in the media as it disincentivizes people fromgetting vaccinated I think we can do better than saying to these grandparents, these vulnerable groups "no need to wear a mask"

How can we endorse such advice when we know statistically decent masks, worn properly as source control protect outwards near 100%?

Some of these people getting vaccinated haven't left their houses in months. I know several people like this. They've been so careful I know people with respiratory Illnesses and heart conditions that will be wearing a mask. They don't enjoy it but they understand the necessity to put it on for short periods.

The absolute disrespect for them to have them walk in and be confronted with 20' something's that haven't put on a mask once during the pandemic and wouldn't even entertain putting on a visor! I would be fuming if I was them. Talk about a slap in the face.

I seriously wonder how okay the ones defending people that opt out of wearing masks would feel if we could provably link spread of infections to such rule-ignorers.

Agree with the rest of your message and just want to say thanks for going against the grain and writing it. I know we're not the only ones that feel this way even if we'll get crucified for speaking up on this thread, it's important to remember not necessarily reflective of the average sentiment of society, particularly outside of the UK. .

The relaxed views toward non-mask wearer Ive heard from most contacts and family abroad is much more strong. I know some who would advocate for public shaming or beating by cops lol, which happens In parts of Asia for flouters that don't wear mask and visor.
