Canada breaks with recent history by voting against Israel and in support of Palestinians' right to self-determination at the UN, signalling it disagrees with U.S.

I feel bad for the people who were born there, but there's no actual reason for America to support Israel either.

Israel does not "increase our diplomatic footprint" when it's the main reason all the Arab countries hate us. It sells its weapons to whoever wants to buy them, including our rivals, so there's no reason to keep selling them our technology. It is not an outgrowth of American power, because it makes our ability to deal with the Muslim world much worse. It has no cultural or historical ties to the US. It was only founded because Europe at the time was being flooded with Jewish refugees from Russia, and the aristocrats wanted to put them in the middle of the desert rather than deal with Russia's problems.

And sorry, Ilhan, there's no reason to support the Palestinians either, for that matter. They have a long history of terrorism and killing innocent Americans, a long history of ties to Moscow and other rivals, and they'll just drag us into war with their neighbors just like supporting Israel does now. No thank you.
